Board of Directors Meeting

January 2, 2012

The Board of Director’s meeting was called to order at 6:30 PM at the Club House.  Members present: Arlene M, Pattie L, Cathy R, Alex A, Lois M, Carol B, Natalie S, Wendy B and Guy H.   Excused absence:  Mary S, Becky U.  Unexcused absence:  Ingrid B., Paul L.  Guests:  Joyce K, Nathan B, Suzanne W, and Alia.

Lois M installed Pattie as the new president.  Pattie L then installed the new Board members.

There were no minutes from the December, 2011 General Membership/Board of Directors meeting to review and approve.  There was no treasurer’s report to review since Ingrid was not at the meeting.

Barn Report:  There was wind damage to the crow’s nest.  Two pieces of tin on the north side were torn off. Pattie will ask Ingrid to report the damage to the insurance company.  It was discussed that anyone who subleases a stall needs to submit all of their contact information to the Board. The person who subleases a stall must make sure that the subleasee is aware of all club rules (i.e.  Everyone must have a Saddle Club membership to ride at the Saddle Club.).  Renters need to keep all trash out of the manure piles.  Cans, twine, bottles, wood, concrete must be disposed of in the dumpster.

Horse Shows:  Show dates for 2012 are as follows:  May 27, June 24 and July 22.

2 & 3 Year Old Western Pleasure Futurity Classes:  July 22 in conjunction with the regular show.   Gymkhana/play days:  June 16 and July 14. Anniversary Play day: September 16.  Carol B is completing the judge’s contracts.

Pattie L proposed designated “Members Only” practice days.  Rail classes, speed events, halter and showmanship can be practiced with other members.  It gives the riders and horses a chance to become comfortable in group settings and encourages them to try their hand at showing. Tentative dates are Sundays: May 6 and 20, June 3 and 17, July 1 and 15 at 1:30 PM.  Lois M moved that the Board approve this schedule, seconded by Carol B. Motion carried.

Steve’s Cleaning and Restoration will sponsor the 2012 Good Sportsmanship Awards.  It was suggested that the 2011 recipients be responsible for selecting the 2012 winners.  More discussion regarding this will be held at the next Horse Show Committee meeting.

Discussion was held regarding high point year-end awards.  Carol B moved that the Club should offer high point year-end awards in 2012.  Seconded by Alex A.  Motion carried.

The next Horse Show Committee meeting will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 1:30 at the clubhouse.  We need additional members for this committee so please make a point to attend.

Deadline for registration for the 2 & 3 Year Old Western Pleasure Futurity at the July 22, 2012 show is June 1, 2012. A registration form is enclosed with this newsletter.  If you have questions, please contact Carol Bridge for further information.

4-H:  The first Bit & Spur 4-H meeting will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 7:00 PM at the clubhouse.

Kennel Club: The Scottsbluff Kennel Club continues to meet at the clubhouse on the fourth Monday of the month.  Their new president is Helen Reinhardt.

New Business:  2012 membership dues must be paid by March 1, 2012 to avoid a $20.00 late fee. A new membership form is attached to this newsletter.

Old Business:  The KNEB Farm and Ranch Expo will be held at the Mitchell Fairgrounds from 9AM to 6PM on Friday, February 3, 2012 and from 9AM to 3PM on Saturday, February 4, 2012.  The Historic Saddle Club will be hosting a booth again this year. We need volunteers to help setup, teardown and man the booth during the two days.  Please contact Arlene M or Pattie L if you can help.

We are still waiting for a second bid on the replacement pump for the arena sprinklers.

Natalie S made a motion that the lock on the crow’s nest door be replaced since it is so difficult to open.  Guy H. seconded.  Motion carried.  Alex A. said he would replace it for us.

Arlene M. stated that there will be a demonstration by Steve Sward and his mustang on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1PM at the Minatare Arena. The demonstration is a benefit for Steve both monetarily and to get both of them ready to be in Ft Worth around large numbers of people and noises.    Cash donations will be accepted at the demo and there will be some items for auction as well.  There is a raffle for 3 private lessons with Bob Shaffner.  Tickets are $5.00.  We want to do all we can to help Steve with his travel expenses.

The next Board of Directors meeting will be held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at the club house.

Cathy R. moved that the meeting adjourn.  Pattie L. seconded.  Motion carried.
